20-voice Harmonic Structures
Triple courses bring a whole new planet of harmonic possibilities. One of which is that when playing with touch (or tapping) technique utilizing both necks simultaneously that I can access 20-voice harmonic structures. In other words: 20-note chords. To put this in perspective: you'd need two people at a piano simultaneously using all fingers on both hands to achieve a 20-voice harmonic structure.
I've long been strongly drawn to complex, massive, and dense harmonic structures. A 20-voice harmonic structure is vast and immense. To me, it's somewhat reminiscent of some of the harmonic environments in Gyorgi Ligeti's orchestral works Lontono and Atmospheres. Not that I'm trying to copy Ligeti, but he's an influence of mine and I've certainly been impacted by his work.
It's exciting to me that I can realize harmonic structures that, until the 30-string Double Contraguitar, were not possible to execute on one guitar.
