Keith Jarrett: Vienna
Keith Jarrett's Vienna Concert album was recorded live on 13 July 1991 at the Vienna State Opera. I've been listening to this record since its release in 1992. It consists of two extended solo piano works: Part 1 with a run time of 41:53, and Part 2 at 26:03.
I've long been a massive fan of, and impacted by, Keith's solo piano works. Vienna Concert is very moving to me. The shape and flow of the two colossal pieces are such that 30 years later, I'm still hearing new details in them.
This blog post isn't intended to be an album review. It's more of a thank-you note to Keith, and a recommendation to listeners. If you like Keith's solo works, you need this record. If you like solo classical piano works, you need this record. If you like music that puts you in an otherwise inaccessible place, you need this record.
I'm listening to it as I type this.
