The 28, part 4
The latest addition to my instruments is the 26-string Double Subcontraguitar. It arrived here one month ago, and that month was filled with work, outlined in these blog posts:
This week, I swapped tuning sides. In other words, I previously had the 5ths tuning on the right (12-string) side, and the octaves tuning on the left (14-string) side. Now, the 5ths tuning is on the left (14-string) side, and the octaves tuning is on the right (12-string) side. This change extends the 5ths tuning by giving it an additional course (high F), which is very useful for the 5ths tuning.
The right side remains in an all-octaves tuning for now. I'll be utilizing the 26 with its present tunings on at least one album project. After those recording sessions are complete, I'll be moving the octaves tuning into an intervalic tuning. I'm not yet sure what the intervalic tuning will be; it could be an all-new tuning, or it could be a tuning I've previously used on the 36-string Double Contraguitar, but in modified form, as the 36 utilizes nine double courses; the right side of the 26 utilizes six double courses.
After just one month, the 26 has become a main instrument for me, and I'm excited to use it in several upcoming album recording projects in 2025 and beyond.
