One album, one instrument
It's very rare that any of the instrumentation on my albums overlap. Usually, each album has its own combination of my instruments that I'm using for that recording session. Furthermore, I don't think there has been more than one album for which I used the exact same set of instruments. However, there are some rare instances wherein I've used only one instrument for an entire record, excluding piano.
Thus far, it's been completely unintentional.
For the 2019 album Kismaros with Balazs Major, I used the 30-string Contra-Alto guitar on the entire record. That was because the album was recorded in Kismaros, Hungary at the end of the 2019 European Tour, and I used the 30 for that tour; it was the only instrument I had with me, so that entire record was recorded using only the 30.
For the 2024 album In Visible Ascent with Phil Grenadier, I used the 36-string Double Contraguitar on the entire record. In the recording sessions, I used a total of four instruments. In those sessions, we recorded material for two albums, and when we selected the pieces for the first album, it just turned out that they were all performed/recorded on the 36.
I don't recall an album project wherein I deliberately set out to track the entire project on a single instrument.
However, I think that may change. I'm considering a couple of album projects wherein I use only one instrument for the entire record. I don't yet know which instrument that might be; it will be decided by the compositions for and direction of that specific project.
It may be quite a challenge.
